Porsche Announces Upgrades To The 911 Race Cars Ahead Of The 2026 Season
SAUDI ARABIA: Ahead of the 2026 racing season, Porsche has announced improvements to two of their racing powerhouses, namely the Porsche 911 GT3 R and the 911 Cup. The improvements are mainly performance-oriented, with improved handling, better driveability, and aerodynamics being the main changes.
The new Porsche 911 Cup will replace the 911 GT3 Cup race car in several races in the 2026 racing season, starting with the Carrera Cup in North America, Asia, Germany, and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Porsche 911 GT3 R: Update Highlights
The updated 911 GT3 R is getting design improvements to improve the car’s handling, especially better aerodynamic balance and more predictable control over the front of the car while braking. The fluid-cooling system of the electrohydraulic power-steering system has also been improved on the GT3 R to make handling consistent, even when the car heats up.
Inside the cabin, the driver’s air vent has been modified to allow better air circulation. Under the hood, the GT3 R gets a 4.2-litre flat-six that produces up to 557 hp. The overall improvements to the GT3 R are, as mentioned, improvements in the car’s driveability and ability to handle it at optimal temperatures, even during a race.
Porsche 911 Cup: Update Highlights
As a new model, the 911 Cup is meant to be a part of Porsche’s one-make series. The fascia of the car, though, seems familiar to the current 911 GT3, and has significant improvements to help the car handle better on racing tracks. From the absence of DRLs to reduce the damage to radiators in case of a crash to improved aerodynamic downforce of the front axle by louvered vents in the fenders, the model has been optimised for optimal racing performance.
Under the hood, the 911 Cup hosts a 4.0-litre flat-six engine that produces up to 512 hp. The car comes with a six-speed sequential transmission and various options for exhaust systems based on the noise requirements for specific markets.
