Dutch Supercar Brand Spykar To Focus Solely On Making Hand-Built Super Sports Cars
SAUDI ARABIA: Spyker has been known for being troubled for a long time. After facing obscurity and possible bankruptcy, the company is making a comeback once again to everyone’s surprise. The company’s founder, Victor Muller, has secured the brand’s intellectual property rights and will now “focus on producing hand-built super sports cars.” This was informed on a social media post.
Spyker had been revived once before by Muller in 1999 as well. However, a botched acquisition of Saab over a decade later would force the company to financially restructure in late 2014. The company resumed operations by the end of 2015 and revealed the C8 Preliator at the Geneva Motor Show. The investments from investors didn’t materialise, and that led to financial trouble for Spykar again in 2021. This was the final legal battle that went on between the creditors of Spykar and the Muller, which has now allegedly been resolved. As per the post, the founder Muller has been able to release the intellectual property rights and trademarks from creditors.
Spyker is a historically rich company that was founded in 1880, and it used to build an assortment of transportation products. The company ceased operations in 1926, and it was revived by Muller at the turn of the century. Though the company was not hugely successful even before its financial struggles, it's safe to say the new direction the company takes will be interesting, to say the least.
Moving forward, as more brands notice that there’s a lack of demand for high-performance low-volume cas, it is going to be interesting to see how Spykar navigates this market. There is tough competition from brands like Koenigsegg and Rimac, and Spyker’s last model is now almost a decade old. So, the only way for the brand to move forward would be to completely revamp its product lineup.
