GM Is Interested In Making A 7th-generation Camaro If The Brand Can Make A Worthy Car
SAUDI ARABIA: The Chevrolet Camaro is known as one of the most iconic muscle cars in the world. It has enjoyed a legendary rivalry with the Ford Mustang for the spot of the best muscle car in the world for over 50 years. However, since 2023, the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro have been out of production with no announcement of a new seventh-generation.
Though the parent company of Chevrolet, General Motors (GM) assured fans in 2023 that, “this is not the final chapter for the nameplate.” There have been no new update on the seventh-generation models in almost two years since.
Recently, the president of General Motors, Mark Reuss, has made several comments regarding the future of the elite muscle sports car. In an interview, he has stated that the elusive seventh-generation Camaro could make a comeback if the ‘formula’ is right. He has also remarked that the future of this nameplate depends on whether GM can deliver a car that’s worthy of carrying the rich legacy of Camaro cars.
In an interview with The Detroit News, he was quoted as saying, “I think that formula of beauty, and a little bit of functionality and fun, all of that is important. If we were getting back into the Camaro, that piece of it is really important. I think that would be a great formula, and we have the ability to do that.”
However, considering the shrinking size of the sports car market in the US and globally, there’s significant doubt on whether the 7th-generation Camaro will ever see the light of day.
The sixth-generation Camaro was last sold as a rear-wheel drive with both coupe and convertible bodies. There was a range of engine options for the Camaro with naturally aspirated V6 or V8 petrol engines, with turbocharged four-cylinders. The sixth-generation Camaro currently races in Australia’s Supercars racing category against the Mustang.
Despite what GM officials said, the future of the Camaro seems bleak unless GM is able to find the key components for its ‘formula,’ which is “affordability and attainability,” with cheap muscle being key.
