Donut Lab Has Made The First Production All-Solid-State Battery With Unbelievably Fast Charging Times Of Just 5 Minutes
SAUDI ARABIA: Solid-state batteries have been the holy grail and the next groundbreaking development for EVs for many years now. The only problem? No one knew how to make a solid-state battery that could be charged quickly, be reliable, not extremely heavy, and also not use any rare materials. Donut Lab has solved these problems, and the results are shocking to say the least.

They have unveiled the world’s first commercially available production-ready all-solid-state battery. What does it offer? Firstly, it is lightweight, safe, and as convenient as gas fillups. Additionally, the liquid-less cell boasts double the energy density of Tesla batteries. Donut Labs is known for innovative inventions, which started with their in-wheel electric motor that’s currently used to power Verge’s electric motorcycles. Now, the all-solid-state battery is expected to launch in a commercially available vehicle in just a few short months with the updated Verge TS Pro two-wheeler.

The Donut Lab battery claims to have an energy density of 400 watt-hours/kilogram, which is higher than any traditional Li-ion battery that’s available today. The traditional Li-ion batteries have an energy density of around 250 to 300 Wh/kg, and they can last for up to 5,000 charging cycles. However, limiting the maximum state of charge to 80% is required in the first place. The Donut Lab battery is expected to be charged in just 5 minutes, and it can be charged for as many as 100,000 charging cycles without limiting charging to 80%. In fact, different climatic conditions also do not have any impact on the Donut’s new solid-state batteries. The batteries have been tested in extreme cold and hot temperatures, and the product retained 99% charging capacity in both scenarios.
FAQs
Q1) Is the solid-state battery expensive?
A) No, the solid-state batteries are not going to be very expensive, as mentioned by Donut Lab, the company that manufactured the world’s first commercially available all-solid-state battery. They said that their battery will be cheaper to build than comparable lithium-ion batteries.
Q2) Are solid-state batteries better than lithium-ion batteries?
A) Solid-state batteries are better than lithium-ion batteries because they offer faster charging times, more charging cycles, and they are lighter.
