Lotus Introduces New Plug-in Hybrid: The Lotus Eletre Seen First Time Through China’s MIIT
SAUDI ARABIA: Lotus has introduced its first plug-in hybrid, so basically it is one of the first Lotuses to feature a gas engine in a long time. The rebranded Eletre has been exposed somewhat during the homologation process with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in China. The Chinese government requires all cars destined for sale in China to appear on the MIIT website.

The styling and design of the plug-in hybrid are instantly familiar with the Lotus branding; however, the internal setup is new. As a plug-in hybrid, the car gets an ICE engine in the form of a turbocharged 2.0-litre gasoline engine that directly powers the wheels. The four-cylinder engine can also act as a generator to charge the battery of the car. Since this is a plug-in hybrid, the model has reduced battery power from a 107 kWh battery pack to a 70 kWh unit.

The engine outputs a maximum power of 275 hp and is paired with two electric motors, which offer a combined power output of 952 hp for the car. As expected from a Lotus, the rebranded Eletre performs exceptionally well on the road with a 0 to 100 kmph acceleration time of just 3.3 seconds. Even without fuel, the car has a range of 420 km on battery power alone. Another astounding feature is that the car supports insane fast charging speeds of just eight minutes for a charge from 30% to 80%.
The Eletre For Me is planned to debut next month at the start of 2026. The car is expected to be sold globally; however, it is not certain whether the name Eletre For Me will be kept for global release or not.
