Nissan Reveals EV & PHEV Models To Be Sold In China In Collaboration With DongFeng

SAUDI ARABIA: Nissan has revealed a new model to be sold in China called the Nissan NX8. The model is developed by Nissan in collaboration with Dongfeng Motors as a part of their joint venture. The first look of the car has been shared through China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The NX8 is an interesting model from Nissan as it will be the first model to debut the 800-volt electrical architecture of Nissan. This model will have access to ‘5C’ charging, which basically allows a car to charge at five times the battery’s capacity.

As a quick overview, the NX8 will be offered both as an EV and a PHEV model. The pure electric variant will be powered either by a 215 kW or 250 kW single motor powertrain. The PHEV version will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 109 kW with a 195 kW single electric motor. The NX8 will be the first ‘new energy’ SUV from the joint venture between Dongfeng and Nissan. The model slots between the X-Trail and Pathfinder in the global Nissan lineup.

In terms of styling, the car has a closed-off front fascia. The outline of Nissan’s V-motion grille is marked by a full-width light bar. The front also gets boomerang-shaped headlights. In the back, the NX8 features OLED taillights as a panel that runs the full width of the rear of the vehicle. It allows displaying customisable lighting patterns. The exterior design is completed with flush door handles, a contrasting roof, and 19 or 20-inch alloy wheels, depending on trim.

The car is expected to be introduced with advanced ADAS features, including semi-autonomous point-to-point driving on navigation, intelligent self-parking, and an integrated LiDAR sensor. Even though the NX8 is not currently set for launch outsid of China, it is expected that the model may find global debut sooner than later.
