Mercedes Pulls The Wrap Off a New G-Class Cabriolet & Fans Are Excited
SAUDI ARABIA: It has been over a decade at this point when the last Mercedes regular G-Class Cabriolet was released. The brand did make a very high-spec open-top version called the “Landaulet” in 2017, but it only sold 99 units, so that doesn’t really count. The modern G-Wagen has not received the Cabrio treatment either, so it is a worthy surprise when the brand announces that a new G-Class with a folding roof is finally coming straight from the home of the G-Class’s home in Graz at Magna Steyr’s plant. While there’s not much information regarding the car as of yet, the brand has confirmed that it will not be a limited edition run, and it will be available in all markets globally.
What Do We Know About The New G-Class Cabriolet So Far?
In terms of the design, the car is expected to have a Landaulet-style design profile with roof edges that extend towards the rear end of the car. It is also expected that the model will have a rear door, which was absent in the latest iterations of the SUV released by Mercedes. In terms of performance, it is safe to assume that it won’t be as extreme as the Maybach Landaulet.
The most probable case is that the car will be like a regular G550 with a folding fabric roof. Also, the car is not expected to be a fully electric vehicle as per the information presented in the press release from the brand. That and considering the car is being considered for a global release, the brand is expected to also offer a diesel variant with the convertible treatment.
When Will The New G-Class Cabriolet Launch?
While there is nothing concrete from the brand so far, it is expected that the car may be officially revealed sooner than later by the end of 2025, with sales and delivery beginning in 2026. In terms of pricing, the car is expected to be priced at a premium over the standard G550, which already starts at around $149,400 (SAR 5,60,564).
