Porsche Plans To Launch A Hybrid 911 Turbo S In Late 2025

SAUDI ARABIA: At the half-year earnings call, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume announced that a new 911 Turbo S will “break cover” later this year. An additional non-S model is also expected to be in the pipeline for launch. This is exciting news for Porsche owners and lovers, as the Chief Financial Officer of Porsche, Lutz Meschke announced that the 992.2 Turbo S will be electrified back in October of 2024.

The newly announced hybrid Porsche will have Varta batteries. This comes after Porsche acquired V4Drive GmbH from the Varta AG Group. As a majority shareholder now, Porsche is planning on increasing the workforce to 375 employees across the Ellwangen and Nördlingen sites. This is being done to ramp up preparation for the new hybrid 911s that are set to launch in late 2025.

What We Know So Far From Porsche’s CEO’s Address

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume has revealed that Porsche is cooking “new derivatives” with the focus being on making the cars “a bit quicker” than the 992.1-generation cars. Based on this information, it is expected that the new Turbo S will deliver more punch than the 992.1 models. The pre-facelift Turbo S already has a 60 hp and 37 lb-ft more power than its predecessor.

Considering this is peak performance to dimension and weight ratio, Porsche must find ways to reduce the weight of the newly announced Turbo S hybrids as they will otherwise come with a weight penalty in terms of their performance.

The CEO has also announced that even though the production of 718 Cayman and Boxster, both of which are alternative two-door models from Porsche, ends in October, they too will get electric variants, which are currently in the production pipelines.

Porsche’s move towards EVs can be considered risky, as the main draw of Porsche cars has always been their engines, even with four-cylinder models. The move towards electric may also see the manual gearbox in Porsche cars go away.
