Volkswagen Plans To End Production Run For Iconic Flagship SUV Touareg With Final Edition

SAUDI ARABIA: The Touareg was introduced in 2002, and it was the flagship SUV from the German automaker. Over the years, the nameplate has sold over 1.2 million units, which is an impressive feat. However, Volkswagen has announced that the car is finally ending its legendary production run by the end of March 2026. Currently, the final edition of the car will be available only with an ICE version, and it will only be available on direct order till the end of March next year.

The Volkswagen Touareg plans to retire gracefully with a respectful nod to its past and its premium status. The car’s design has been refined elegantly, rather than reinventing its style altogether. To mark the final edition of the car, there are certain subtle design nods. The most important one is the laser-engraving of “FINAL EDITION” on the window surrounds of the rear doors. The FINAL EDITION caption is also embossed on the leather gear selector and illuminated sill panels of the car.

The Final Edition of the Touareg ends production by the end of March 2026, and the last phase of production only offers the vehicle with an ICE variant. All trim levels have been restored, and buyers will get the opportunity to order the vehicle across the range. The Touareg is being phased out to focus on electric mobility and more broadly positioned SUVs from Volkswagen. However, it is nice to see that the nameplate is not being revamped as of yet, and it is being allowed to end production with its signature specs unedited.
