F1 Deal Between Honda & Aston Martin May Lead To A Road Car Project
SAUDI ARABIA: The Asian and European carmakers are collaborating on the F1 grids in 2026. That collaboration has planted the seeds of a partnership on a joint roadcar that may come to fruition in the future. The F1 collaboration of Honda and Aston Martin will see all Aston Martin F1 cars, exclusively using Honda manufactured engines.

When asked about the F1 collaboration with Honda, Lawrence Stroll, the Aston Martin Executive Chairman, said, “Our current plan is obviously our very ambitious Formula One works, team project. It's safe to say that that is the beginning of our relationship. We actually at this point have not discussed a production car or hypercar or a supercar together. There is absolutely no reason why we can't do so going forward. I tell you, Aston Martin would be very open to the idea based on this partnership. I'm sure [Honda CEO] Mibe-san might be excited about the idea. So let's just say all doors are open to explore the greatest way to have the best partnership we can.”

Responding to the Aston Martin Executive Chairman, the Honda President Toshihiro Mibe, said, “On the subject of any mass production projects, there are no talks. But the racing activities between the two—the more successful this is going to be, there will be value to applying what we learned from that to production cars. So I don't know at what time, but if there is a possibility to expanding our business, as mentioned, that we can continue discussing, and I will be doing so with Lawrence. It is entirely possible.”
Honda had exited its role as an F1 engine manufacturer at the end of the 2021 season. This is the first time since then any F1 car will be powered by Honda engines. As the season is expected to start soon, it will be exciting to see the prowess of Asian engineering on the F1 tracks once again.
