Ford F-150 Lightning Is Going Out & The New Lightning Model Gets A Much-Needed EREV Treatment
SAUDI ARABIA: The Ford F-150 is one of the most beloved cars from the Ford lineup. The Lightning, even though an EV, was a hit too, but the standard F-150 Lightning is going out after 2025. While the car was well received and the fact that the instant acceleration capabilities of the EV technology made it popular, however, there was a major issue with the car, its range.

People who bought and loved the Ford F-150 were not the ones who stood in line to buy Teslas. They loved the reliability of ICE engines and the convenience of ‘filling up their truck’ when required. So, the range anxiety hit the users hard. Additionally, it was not just range anxiety; the F-150 is not just a daily commute urban cruiser. It is a powerful car that’s widely used for towing and even cross-country travelling.
So, towing took down the range further, which made owners furious. In a very shocking move, the manufacturer Ford actually listened to their customers and is actually trying to fix the problems that existed with the Ford F-150 Lightning.
Ford F-150 Lightning EREV

Ford’s solution to the range problem for the F-150 Lightning was to introduce an EREV solution. What’s EREV? Extended Range Electric Vehicles. Without losing all the things that made the Lightning stand out, the EREV model just adds range to the existing F-150 Lightning. How much range? It is estimated that the standard range of the F-150 Lightning can be increased from 515 km to over 1126 km per charge. And the best part? It will still be an EV that has instant torque and acceleration that owners love.
How Is The Ford F-150 Lightning EREV Going To Achieve Extended Range?
The Ford F-150 Lightning EREV achieves the extended range with a gas-powered generator. The EV is still an EV, the electric motors and the battery pack still power the car. The generator is only used to extend the truck’s range, especially when towing. The chief EV digital and design officer, Doug Field, states, “Our next-generation F-150 Lightning EREV will be every bit as revolutionary. It delivers everything Lightning customers love—near instantaneous torque and pure electric driving. But with a high-power generator enabling an estimated range of 700+ miles, it tows like a locomotive.”
