Mitsubishi Announces A Rebadged Renault Scenic As The New Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross In Europe
SAUDI ARABIA: Mitsubishi is making a quiet but certain comeback in the European market, and as part of its Alliance agreement with Renault, the brand is rebadging Renault cars as its own lineup now. The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is just a rebadged Renault Scenic with the same components and performance. What’s different? The design and the branding. This is not even the first car that Mitsubishi is rebadging as its own.
Previously, Mitsubishi has rebadged the Renault Clio as the Mitsubishi Colt, the Renault Captur as the Mitsubishi ASX, and even the new Renault Symbioz as the Mitsubishi Grandis in the European market. The European market is one of the major markets for EVs in the world, and having the rebadged Renault Scenic, which is a fully electric car in Mitsubishi’s lineup, definitely helps Mitsubishi find a stable market position in Europe.
How is The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Different From The Renault Scenic?
The 2nd-generation Eclipse Cross is a rebadged Renault Scenic. The front fascia of the car is new with the Eclipse Cross as it features Mitsubishi’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ grille, and it also gets new streak-like DRLs. The rear lights of the Eclipse Cross are the same as on the Scenic; however, there’s a new gloss black plastic panel on the Eclipse Cross.
The interiors of both cars are identical, with the exception of the seats. The Eclipse Cross gets new seats with diamond-shaped quilting; however, the car retains the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen from the Scenic with its standard support of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the hood, both cars feature an 87 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack. The range of both cars is 372 miles or 598 km. Both cars feature a DC fast charging feature. A single electric motor powers the Eclipse Cross and the Scenic’s rear wheels with a power output of up to 215 bhp. Another entry-level model is expected from the brand next year, rebadging the entry-level 60 kWh battery pack from the Scenic.
The Eclipse Cross will be built by Renault at their Douai workshop in France.
