Luxury Korean Automaker Genesis Confirms New Flagship Off-Road SUV In The Near Future

SAUDI ARABIA: José Muñoz, who is the president and CEO of the Hyundai Motor Company, has explained at Hyundai’s 2025 Investors Day meeting in New York City that Genesis is planning to reveal an off-road SUV. 

The concept model that’s known as the Genesis X Gran Equator, revealed earlier in 2025, may work as the blueprint for the flagship off-road SUV from Genesis. The concept model showed off all-terrain tires, high ground clearance, and wide hips; all these aspects hint towards the adventure-focused concept being used as an inspiration for the brand’s future SUV flagship.

The CEO of Hyundai Motor Company also added, “We will go beyond the brand's existing model lineup to create new flagship vehicles. For example, an off-roader infused with the spirit of adventure, just like the X Gran Equator concept. These vehicles, which are currently concepts, exemplify our ambition to offer leading products that deliver exceptional experiences.”

The luxury angle of the off-road concept and the flagship title for the new model suggest that it will be competing with luxury SUVs from other brands in the market. Potentially, the model will compete with models from Mercedes like the G-Class, Land Rover’s Defender, and BMW’s future G-Wagen, to name a few. Even the boxy design of the concept model already feels like a reference to its competitors. 

Another interesting factor that would have people eagerly waiting for more information about this Genesis flagship is whether this car will be an ICE, hybrid, or fully electric drivetrain. The brand has not revealed information about this yet. However, considering Genesis has already mentioned that hybrid cars will be a significant part of Genesis’s future, it leaves room for speculation.

José Muñoz also said, “Our brand ambition is to strengthen our luxury lineup with high-end SUVs, performance vehicles, hybrids, and EREVs, and to continue expanding into global markets. We are also broadening our electrification strategy to include our three distinct production system: battery EVs, hybrids, and EREVs.
